[ it's the same percival. the same sort of response he expects, but somehow he can't really see the usual bite in it. then again, vane had always been optimistic and ... often blind in light of the other man's insults. still, it's hard to find offense when the sky is as pretty as it is now, and so vane gives an inaudible chuckle. ] C'mon, I wouldn't forget how to spell your name! We're friends, right?
[ or so vane is firm on stating. his peripherals brush past the other knight momentarily, and he swears he can see a touch of something else beneath his veneer. underneath all his sternness and his projected self-assurance, maybe ... percival was lonely too? or so vane can't help but think for a second.
at this, he leans against percival's shoulder. ] We just need to take in this sight a million times over for Siegfried and Lancey, too! [ if anything, vane doesn't doubt they'll see each other again. it's not to say he doesn't miss them. or that he's realized how much reliance he may have placed on their presence, but all the same, vane takes this as his own moment to show them how much he's developed or progressed. ... or something like that. vane was never really proficient at putting words to his thought or order to his considerations—
if there is one thing he knows it's that... he's grateful percival is here with him. ]
[ Percival is leaning a great deal of things left unsaid, because Vane and the others have always been much better than himself about conveying their attachment to each other. Even Siegfried, who maintained a deal of emotional distance from the rest of them, had no trouble expressing his pride at how much they'd all grown and freely giving them compliments.
But Percival is cut from a different cloth, and talking about the emotions running through his mind and making him feel melancholy isn't his idea of an easy or a good time.
Tonight, he doesn't find it in him to fight Vane on this. Not when the weight against his shoulder and hearing their friends' names again in Vane's voice brings him a little bit of reassurance.
Vane has always been an overly attached fool. ]
They must not have the strength they once did, to both go back into stasis like that. They are not knights, but a pair of lazy oafs.
[ He's making a joke of the situation, and he even smiles a little, but he has the best intentions. Vane says it best for both of them. So he nudges Vane's shoulder back, lightly. ]
[ instinctively, vane opens his mouth to defend the two, but quickly... catches himself. then, manages to catch the expression that percival wears. there's something soft to it, and instead vane huffs a bit of a sigh. partially relieved, but more so in a "oh, percy..." kind of way— ] ... you really aren't honest.
But, somehow that's really "Percy"-like? Ahaha, though I guess that only makes sense because you are Percy! [ it's very like him, essentially. ... and it's funny how it's rubbed him the wrong way at first. how easily it made him defensive in light of the situation back when he first battled alongside percival. now, it was kind of funny.
vane still chuckles a little, but part of it ... is a little defeated in a way. at least around the edges. it's clearly a type of compensation, but maybe that's just a sign they were both just doing their best in their own ways. it's why, he finds his free arm lift up and drape over percival. it's in this process he face also presses closer, their cheeks brushing against each other briefly. ] Ah... [ what is this... sensation. this epiphany??? ]
[ He has some idea, though. The truth is, as much as he wants to wish well to Siegfried and Lancelot, he also knows better than dwelling on their absence. He's never been that type of person, and he wasn't about to start now.
Besides, Vane provides enough of a distraction from those thoughts. Whether it's a good or bad thing is still up in the air.
Why is he so profoundly like this?! Percival fusses, and pretty dreadfully so. ]
Unhand me! Have you no concept of personal space?! [ Nevermind that... they're pretty well past that after everything they've been through, probably? ]
